Kathmandu , The government has decided to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 15,000 to displaced squatter families. The decision was made during the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
The government had recently cleared squatter settlements located along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley using bulldozers as part of an eviction campaign. The operation displaced several families living in those areas.
According to the government, the monthly allowance will be provided as temporary relief to help affected families manage housing, food, and daily living expenses.
While the decision is expected to provide some immediate support to displaced families, concerns remain over their long-term rehabilitation and settlement management. Stakeholders have stressed the need for sustainable solutions for the affected communities.
