Kathmandu, July 26: Continuous monsoon rains have caused landslides, flooding, and river erosion, disrupting traffic on several major highways and road sections across Nepal.
The BP Highway, connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, has been closed to night-time traffic due to safety concerns. Authorities have also suspended vehicle movement on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebensi road section from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM because of the risk of flooding.
Likewise, all types of vehicles have been barred from using the Kanti Highway between 5:00 PM and 5:00 AM until further notice.
In eastern Nepal, the Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality has been completely blocked after mud and debris covered the road. Meanwhile, landslides have obstructed the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, affecting transportation to Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.
The Lamosangu–Ramechhap road has also been disrupted after erosion caused by the Tamakoshi River damaged parts of the highway. An alternative route has been arranged through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative to maintain connectivity.
Similarly, landslides have blocked the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubesi unpaved road, while the Jomsom–Korla road has become impassable due to rising water levels in the Ghyakar River.
The Department of Roads and local authorities are working to clear debris, repair damaged sections, and restore traffic as quickly as possible. Travelers have been urged to avoid unnecessary journeys, particularly during the night, and to follow official travel advisories.
