Kathmandu, July 26: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has called on the Nepali diaspora to invest in Nepal, stating that greater participation from overseas Nepalis is essential to achieving the country’s economic development and prosperity.
Addressing a virtual interaction with young Nepali entrepreneurs based in Australia on Saturday, Minister Wagle urged them to remain connected to their homeland and take advantage of the investment opportunities created by the government. He said the government’s vision of “Once a Nepali, Always a Nepali,” promoted by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), reflects its commitment to strengthening ties with the global Nepali community.
According to the Minister’s personal secretariat, Dr. Wagle described Nepalis living abroad as goodwill ambassadors of the country and encouraged them to support Nepal’s economic transformation through investment, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
He said the government has introduced tax and revenue reforms along with industry-friendly policies to create a more favorable investment climate. He also assured that Nepalis investing from abroad would be able to repatriate their returns through a simplified process.
Highlighting recent initiatives aimed at attracting diaspora investment, the Finance Minister said the government has launched several innovative financial instruments, including NRN Bonds, Offshore Bonds, and alternative financing mechanisms, to mobilize capital from overseas Nepalis and boost national development.
Dr. Wagle expressed confidence that increased investment from the Nepali diaspora would play a significant role in creating jobs, promoting entrepreneurship, and accelerating sustainable economic growth.
