Kathmandu, July 27: Minister for Health and Food Safety Nisha Mehta has appealed for calm and communal harmony following the deadly violence in Dewanganj Rural Municipality of Sunsari district, where one person was killed and more than 20 others were injured.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Minister Mehta expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. She also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the clash.
According to the minister’s secretariat, the ministry is coordinating with the concerned agencies to ensure that the injured receive timely and appropriate medical treatment.
Calling for restraint, Mehta urged citizens not to rely on unverified reports or rumors circulating on social media and other platforms. She stressed that misinformation during sensitive situations could further escalate tensions and undermine social harmony.
The minister also expressed confidence that the concerned authorities would carry out a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the facts behind the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
Tension remains high in Sunsari after a violent clash erupted in Ward No. 3 of Dewanganj Rural Municipality on Sunday night. The confrontation left one person dead and 22 others injured, including 13 security personnel, prompting heightened security measures in the area.
