Kathmandu: Global IME Bank Ltd. has launched a new digital banking service that allows eligible Nepali citizens to open a personal savings account directly through the Nagarik App (Citizen App), eliminating the need to manually fill in personal details during the application process.
The service, introduced in collaboration with the Nagarik App, enables users who possess a National Identity Card and are registered on the app to initiate account opening by scanning a QR code available on the bank’s dedicated portal. The QR code can be accessed through the bank’s official account-opening platform.
According to the bank, the service is available to Nepali citizens aged 18 years and above who have completed their National Identity Card registration and are active users of the Nagarik App.
With the customer’s prior consent, the bank securely retrieves the required personal information from the Nagarik App, reducing paperwork, minimizing manual data entry, and enhancing the accuracy of customer information. The system has also been designed to strengthen data privacy and information security.
To activate the newly opened account, customers must complete the verification process either by visiting their nearest Global IME Bank branch or through the bank’s Video Know Your Customer (Video KYC) facility.
The bank stated that the initiative represents the first service of its kind in Nepal, integrating the government’s digital infrastructure with banking services to make account opening more convenient, transparent, and technology-driven.
Global IME Bank believes the collaboration with the Nagarik App will simplify banking access while providing customers with a faster and more secure digital banking experience.
