KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 23

Flydubai has started regular flights between Dubai and Pokhara, marking the beginning of scheduled international air services at Pokhara International Airport.

The Dubai-based airline is scheduled to arrive in Pokhara at 6:15 pm and depart for Dubai at 7:15 pm with passengers. Airport authorities have arranged a traditional water-cannon salute for the inaugural arrival. Tourism and business representatives are also scheduled to welcome passengers at the airport.

The new service is expected to provide an additional international travel option for Nepali migrant workers, students and other passengers travelling between Nepal and the Gulf region.

Pokhara International Airport came into operation on January 1, 2023, but has struggled to maintain regular international services. Although several international flights have operated from the airport, previous services were not sustained.

Airport General Manager Jagannath Niraula said the airport has completed the necessary infrastructure and operational arrangements for international flights, including immigration, customs, cargo handling and passenger services.

According to tourism representatives, the Dubai route could improve Pokhara’s international connectivity, as Dubai is a major aviation transit hub with connections to numerous international destinations.

Security arrangements have also been reviewed, with the District Security Committee inspecting the airport ahead of the start of regular operations.
