Kailali, July 27: A 35-year-old man from Kailali has died after sustaining critical burn injuries in an apparent self-immolation attempt, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Chaudhary, a resident of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-7.
According to the District Police Office, Kailali, Chaudhary allegedly set himself on fire inside his home on Saturday evening, leaving him with burns covering nearly 60 percent of his body.
Following the incident, family members rushed him to Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi for emergency treatment. As his condition remained critical, doctors referred him to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj. However, the family decided to take him to Kathmandu for specialized medical care.
Police said Chaudhary died on the way to Kathmandu on Sunday morning before he could receive further treatment.
Superintendent of Police Kailash Singh Bista confirmed the death and said an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are collecting evidence and recording statements as part of the inquiry.
