Attorney General’s Decision to Withdraw Lamichhane Case Is a Historical Disgrace: KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu , Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has strongly objected to the decision of the Office of the Attorney General to withdraw cases related to organized crime and money laundering against Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane, calling the move “a historical disgrace.”

Speaking at the 42nd Piskar Martyrs Memorial Day and the book launch of Struggles Inside Prison, written by Saresh Nepal, Oli questioned the accountability behind the decision. “Who will repay the misappropriated public money? Will the Office of the Attorney General take responsibility for it?” he asked.

Oli alleged that the rule of law has been replaced by arbitrary governance in the country. He said that even if public property is embezzled, cases are not pursued, past charges are amended, and individuals facing serious allegations are portrayed as heroes for electoral gain.

Reiterating his party’s stance, Oli stated that Nepal must have a government led by Nepalis and warned that any attempt to form a “foreign-influenced” government would be resisted. He urged the younger generation to remain vigilant, emphasizing that Nepal is a sovereign and independent nation built through the sacrifices of previous generations and must be protected at all costs.

Recalling the Piskar massacre of December 30, 1983, carried out by the authoritarian Panchayat regime in Sindhupalchok, Oli said there is no alternative but to move forward with commitment to the ideals of the martyrs and the aspirations of the people who fought for change.
