Kathmandu, The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) has launched a special monitoring and surprise inspection campaign targeting public transport vehicles operating across the Kathmandu Valley.
According to the KVTPO, the regular surprise inspections began on Wednesday with the objective of ensuring passenger safety, improving public transport services, and reducing road accidents.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawaraj Adhikari, Chief of the KVTPO, said special attention is being given to whether public buses have installed mandatory safety equipment such as CCTV cameras and dashboard cameras.
The monitoring team is also inspecting the cleanliness of public vehicles, the behaviour of drivers and conductors, whether buses are carrying passengers beyond capacity, and their compliance with traffic rules.
SSP Adhikari said the campaign aims to make public transportation in the Valley more systematic, safe and passenger-friendly.
“As per government standards, public vehicles must have CCTV cameras and dashboard cameras installed and should remain clean and organised. Necessary action will be taken against vehicles that fail to meet these standards,” he stated.
During the monitoring campaign, a team led by SSP Adhikari carried out on-site inspections in different areas of the Kathmandu Valley while travelling on public buses.
The KVTPO said the campaign was launched in response to the recent rise in passenger complaints, growing risks of accidents caused by negligence, and weak implementation of safety measures in public transport.
Traffic police officials have informed that continuous monitoring will be carried out on the Valley’s major routes in the coming days.
