Kathmandu, The National Sports Council (NSC) has lifted the suspension imposed on the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). The decision was made on Friday after discussions between the NSC and ANFA in the presence of the Sports Minister resulted in an agreement.
The meeting, held in the presence of Minister for Education and Sports Sasmita Pakharel, was attended by NSC Member Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta, sports advisor Siddhi Byanjankar, ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai, Treasurer Rabindra Joshi, and spokesperson Suresh Shah.
Officials said the suspension was lifted after both sides agreed to move forward with the election process through mutual understanding.
On Chaitra 11, the NSC had suspended ANFA for three months after the football body attempted to hold an early election general assembly using old representatives.
Following the suspension, FIFA repeatedly urged the NSC to lift the ban unconditionally. FIFA had warned that failure to remove the suspension on time could put Nepal football’s membership at risk and may lead to sanctions from both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Meanwhile, the NSC had proposed a face-to-face meeting with FIFA to seek a resolution to the dispute. While ANFA claimed the suspension was lifted unconditionally, the NSC clarified that the decision came only after an agreement was reached to complete the election process procedurally.
With the suspension now lifted, ANFA’s election process is expected to move ahead according to the scheduled timeline.
