Cabinet Approves Swiss and Chinese Grants, Announces Relief for Displaced Families

Kathmandu , The government has approved major foreign grants from Switzerland and China while also announcing relief and rehabilitation measures for families displaced from high-risk riverside settlements in the Kathmandu Valley. The decisions were made during the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

According to the government, a grant worth 6.116 million Swiss Francs from the Swiss government has been accepted for the Municipal Revenue Enhancement Project. Similarly, the Cabinet approved a grant of 79.36 million RMB from the Chinese government for the repair and improvement of the Araniko Highway.

The Cabinet also decided to provide relief and rehabilitation assistance to people displaced after the removal of risky settlements located along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley. Under the decision, each displaced family will receive a one-time rehabilitation grant of Rs 25,000.

In addition, families with up to five members will receive Rs 15,000 per month as housing management support, while families with more than five members will receive an additional Rs 2,000 per extra member per month. The support will initially be provided for three months.

The government has also decided to place elderly, disabled, helpless, and vulnerable individuals in designated holding centers. Authorities said arrangements would also be made in coordination with local governments to ensure uninterrupted education for children and continued access to healthcare services.

During the same meeting, the Cabinet approved the Delegation Regulation, 2083, and the Military Service (Sixth Amendment) Regulation, 2083. It also granted approval to present a bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 in the Federal Parliament.

Furthermore, the government decided to adjust and appoint special-class secretaries in accordance with the Government of Nepal (Work Division) Regulation, 2083.
